    Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) is a technology that integrates biomass conversion to heat, electricity, or liquid or gas fuels with carbon capture and sequestration (including biochar) (see Figure 1).BECCS could provide a significant portion of the global energy supply if deployed to its theoretical maximum feasible amount. An ideal combustion reaction produces carbon dioxide rather than carbon monoxide. However, many combustion reactions do not go to completion and some carbon monoxide does form. Carbon monoxide itself burns blue to give carbon dioxide, and is often used as a fuel or reducing agent in the form of so-called 'producer gas'.
